A record number of students now study Chemical Engineering in the UK, with intake at Hull increasing significantly year-on-year – testament to both industry growth and our substantial investment in the subject. In the heart of the Humber region’s thriving ‘Energy Estuary’, you benefit from studying close to more than 350 engineering and process giants – including Phillips66, Total, Novartis, BP Chemicals, Croda, Cristal, Smith & Nephew and RB (formerly Reckitt Benckiser). This degree was developed in line with the requirements of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, and the academic criteria for registration as a Chartered Engineer - a professional qualification that sets the gold standard in chemical, biochemical, process and related areas.
Combine this with the opportunity to boost your employability by spending your penultimate year either applying the theory learned in previous years to real life projects on industrial placement, or by studying at one of our partner institutions in Europe, Asia, North America or Australia. The option of a Masters year allows you to undertake a focused research project to expand theory and skills while providing the mandatory four years of study required for accreditation as a Chartered Engineer. A Foundation year is ideal if you do not have the qualifications and experience to enter the degree course directly.
It is also important to note the fact that our BSc Chemical Engineering programme is ranked at number 20 in the UK in the Times & Sunday Times newspapers.
